Four killed‚ about 50 injured in Chitwan bus accident
CHITWAN: Four passengers were killed when a bus they were travelling in met with an accident at Chandibhanjyang of Chitwan district along the Narayangadh-Muglin highway section early Wednesday morning.
The ill-fated Kathmandu-bound bus (Ba 2 Kha 9887), which had left from Dharan yesterday evening, was carrying nearly 55 passengers. The accident occurred after the bus skidded off the highway track and plunged 60 mitres down into a gorge at around 6:15 am this morning.
However, police Sub-Inspector Rohit Kumar Dulal told THT Online over phone from the accident site that the death casualties are yet to be confirmed officially as rescue operations for the trapped passengers inside the wreckage of the bus are still on. “Four persons are trapped in the wreckage and chances of them being rescued alive are slim,” he added.
According to him, almost all passengers travelling in the bus have been injured in the fatal crash.
The injured have been wheeled into Chitwan-based health facilities, Dulal said. As the rescue operations are still ongoing. Identity of the injured is yet to be ascertained and cause behind the accident is not known yet, said police. THT
