The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has agreed to provide 989 million Japanese Yen equal to approximately Rs 90,690,0000 to install two new radars at the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) and at Bhatte Danda in Lalitpur district, on Wednesday.
Amid a function held today at the Ministry of Finance (MoF) in Singha Durbar, the JICA and the government signed a deal to this effect. Joint Secretary at Ministry of Finance Madhu Kumar Marasini, and Tsutomu Shimizu, Chief Representative of JICA Nepal Office exchanged the aid.
Issuing a press statement JICA said that an exchange of note was also signed and exchanged between Shanta Raj Subedi, Secretary at the MOF and Ambassador of Japan to Nepal Kunio Takahashi in the function.
The grant aid will be utilised to install Monopulse Secondary Surveillance Radar (MSSR) systems at the TIA and Bhatte Danda under JICA’s Tribhuvan International Airport Modernization Project, the statement read.
It is said that once the new systems are installed, radars will monitor small aircraft flying on domestic air routes as well as international aircraft flying in high altitude and extend en-route surveillance up to 200 nautical miles.
