Man stages his abduction drama to swindle wife
KATHMANDU: A 34-year-old man was arrested on charge of staging a drama
of his abduction and trying to extrort money from his own wife as
"ransom for his safe release."
Police said that they nabbed Dharma Raj Oli, a permanent resident of Bhandara-9, Chitwan and currently residing in Battisputali, from Koteshwor last Friday.
Oli had reportedly called his wife Goma on Thursday afternoon and told her that he was abducted. He had asked her to deposit at least Rs 500,000 into his bank account to pay ransom to the "abductors."
Upon receiving complaint from Goma, police deposited the ransom at the Koteshwor-based KIST Bank and waited to see the "abductors" withdrawing the money.
To surprise them, the alleged victim himself showed up at the bank to withdraw the amount. Subsequently, police took him in custody for interrogation.
