Water current rises above 'danger level' at Koshi
Red flags and lights have been flashed on the Koshi barrage after the water current at Sapta Koshi rose above the danger level on Monday.
According Sub Inspector of the Koshi Barrage Police Station Shambhu Basnet, red flags and red lights have been flashed on the barrage signaling danger as the water flow read 155,543 cusec on Monday morning.
22 doors out of 52 were opened at the barrage. Officials in Koshi barrage control room said that the water current could increase further as the discharge in Baraha Kshetra has also risen.
A red light and red flag are usually flashed, indicating emergency, at the Sapta Koshi Barrage if the current rises above 150,000 cusec.
However, Dinesh Rajouria, chief of Sunsari Irrigation Development Division said that the water current poses no threat to the embankments for the time being.
