94 held for smoking in public
KATHMANDU, JUN 27 -
Police on Wednesday arrested 94 persons for violating the law that prohibits smoking in public places.
Police team deputed by Metropolitan Police Circle Kathmandu arrested them from various places in the Capital, Kathmandu police spokesperson DSP Dhiraj Pratap Singh informed.
According to Singh, they were arrested from Singha Durbar, Durbarmarg, Bir Hospital, Thapathali and Norvic Hospital, among other places.
The government had enforced the Tobacco Product Control and Regulatory Act-2010 since August last year, banning smoking in public places. As per the act, those found smoking at public places will be arrested and fined.
The law has designated government offices, educational institutions, libraries, airports, public vehicles, orphanages, childcare centres, cinema halls, cultural centres, hotels, restaurants, department stores, religious sites and industries as no-smoking zones. - Ekantipur
