Nepali man gets life term for murder in UAE
A court in the United Arab Emirates has convicted a Nepali migrant worker of murder of his colleague after a drunken brawl and sentenced him to life, local media reported.
The 28-year-old accused admitted that he knew the victim for three years and had lent him Dh500, according to the Khaleej Times.
The verdict on the May 2013 murder came yesterday.
The debt had ensued hostility between them and the accused stabbed the victim to death using a kitchen knife after the latter refused to return the amount.
The attacker had denied premeditated murder at the Dubai Criminal Court last December, citing the effect of the alcohol the pair had drank before they argued, according to The National.
The court, however, found him guilty and imposed a 25-year life sentence yesterday.
He would be deported to Nepal after completing his term. -THT
